Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo West National Park, located in southeastern Kenya, covers an area of about 9,065 square kilometers and is part of the larger Tsavo ecosystem, which includes Tsavo East National Park. Known for its dramatic scenery, Tsavo West offers a mix of savannah, woodlands, and rugged landscapes, punctuated by volcanic hills, lava flows, and swamps. One of its most iconic features is the Shetani Lava Flow, a vast black lava field formed by volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago.

The park is rich in wildlife, including the famous "Big Five" (elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and rhinos) as well as giraffes, hippos, and crocodiles, which can be spotted near Mzima Springs, a series of crystal-clear pools fed by underground streams. The springs are a key attraction, offering a unique underwater viewing chamber to observe aquatic life. Birdlife is also abundant, with over 600 species recorded, making it a paradise for bird watchers.

Tsavo West's diverse landscape and habitats provide excellent opportunities for game drives, nature walks, and rock climbing, as well as visits to ancient rock paintings. The park is accessible via the Nairobi-Mombasa highway and offers a range of accommodation options, from luxury lodges to campsites, providing visitors with the perfect base to explore this untamed wilderness.
